Operas & Operetta
Emmerich Kálmán, one of the leading composers of the “Silver Age” of operetta, died 60 years ago today, on 30 October 1953.
Amongst his 22 operettas, which are still regularly performed to this day, are the celebrated Die Csárdásfürstin and Gräfin Mariza, and it has been estimated that Die Csárdásfürstin (The Gipsy Princess) has been performed more than 100,000 times since its premiere in 1915.
Some of Kálmán’s most popular arias include:
“Heia, heia in den Bergen” (from Die Csárdásfürstin)
“Grüss mir mein Wien” (from Gräfin Mariza)
“Zwei Marchenaugen” (from Die Zirkusprinzessin)
