Farewell - Larry Ashmore

Ashmore

Josef Weinberger Limited is saddened to report of the death of Larry Ashmore, who suffered a stroke on Monday 4th March.

Having graduated from the Royal College of Music in London where he studied double bass, composition and conducting, Larry went on to become one of the most busy composers and orchestrators of his generation, creating orchestrations for such films as Lawrence of ArabiaBridget Jones’ Diary, Gosford Park, Calendar Girls, Passion of The Christ and Harry Potter.

His works in the Weinberger catalogue are his orchestration of Patrick Doyle’s music for Kenneth Branagh’s film Henry V, which has been performed in concert by orchestras the world over and his arrangement (for the American clarinettist Richard Stolzman) of The Four Seasons and Greensleeves, for which our company was planning a new print edition, was slowly but surely finding its way into the standard clarinet œuvre. This edition will be released in the near future.

Larry’s website has a fantastic insight into his very colouful musical life:

Our sympathies go to Larry’s family.
