It's that time of the year...

December

It’s that time of the year again… time to choose music for your Christmas concerts.

Stephen Hough has penned a variety of works over the past few years and Josef Weinberger has released an album of seasonal works, entitled DECEMBER - A Choral Album, which takes in the Advent season right through to the New Year.

The album’s four works are:

ADVENT CALENDAR (words by Rowan Williams)
HARK, THE HERALD ANGELS SING (words by Charles Wesley)
SILENT NIGHT (words by Joseph Mohr)
THE GATE OF THE YEAR (words by Minnie Louise Haskins)

Stephen Hough’s note for the album is as follows:

These four a cappella settings, written at different times and for different circumstances, share in common a December theme, from the preparation for Christmas of ‘Advent Calendar’ to the ‘Gate’ of the New Year.  The latter poem was made famous when King George VI used it as part of his Christmas broadcast in the dark war days of 1939. The two carols in the middle are amongst the most sung words in the Western world but set here in very different ways to the original familiar, strophic tunes.

DECEMBER - A Choral Album is now available!
