Two antagonistic brothers, Ray and Earl, are brought together after their father Henry Moss is found dead in his seedy New Mexico home. The reunion starts out amiably enough as they sit around the bungalow on the outskirts of town. Earl is leafing through a photo album like any son trying to shore up happy memories of a dead parent. Yet his unwillingness to have the father’s body removed and his steady inroads on the bottle (a liking both brothers have inherited from their dad) send clear signals that there are buried emotions not likely to turn up in the photographs. Through a series of flashbacks their stories emerge as Ray gradually uncovers the mysteries surrounding Henry’s last days.
