Jean, the branch organiser of a slimming club is frustrated, as usual, by the late arrival of her charges. Even when the motley collection of members have assembled, it is clear that the slimming aspect of their weekly meetings is the last thing on their minds! The arrival of a timid new member, together with Jean’s revelation of grim news from the club’s Head Office, forces them all to re-evaluate their reasons for trying to slim in the first place. Whilst their resolve is hardly strengthened, they are forced to dream up a scheme that will fulfil everyone’s wishes whilst leaving honour intact.

Peter Gordon was born in York in 1950. After reading for a degree at Sheffield, he went on to qualify as a chartered Civil Engineer and embarked on a career which has led him as far afield as the Arabian Gulf. Peter’s other plays include the ‘Inspector Pratt trilogy’ Murdered to Death, Secondary Cause of Death and Death by Fatal Murder, which have been extensively performed around the world, Out of Focus, Generations Apart, Seeds of Doubt, The Reunion and Third Week in August. Peter has also written the television adaptation of Generations Apart. He now lives near York.
